Temperley London made a comeback to London Fashion week for the unveiling of our Spring Summer 2009
Collection Launch; A Romantic Odyssey.
"You can shut out romance from the human heart but you can't shut out wonder. And the romance and the wonder of life will always find it. Art is an instrument ready to hand. It may all be an illusion, but if it is, so is life".
The Romantic Odyssey collection was inspired by the age of Enchantment, an era which dominated the culture of post Victorian Britain. The aesthetic of high Victorian restraint and artistic repression, with it's late undercurrents of decadence and sinful delight were tempered with the horrors of the war. People yearned for escapist fantasy and turned in great nubers to the exotic tales and the colourful designs, which began to emerge in the arts of the new 20th century.
This was a time when the restraints of Victorian darkness were combined with a movement towards colour, light and space. The collection was inspired by characters of the time, Beardsley, Dunlac and Charlie Chaplin.
Temperley combined bold graphic details with a riot of colourful accents and patterns with rich fabric manipulations, creating a clean and pure collection full of references of this wonderful world of enchantment and the iconic features that brought us this new and celebrated era.
