I've driven all over Sub Saharan Africa in artics, but had to redo my test in the UK when I drove there. These test are so easy, it's when you get into the real situations like driving in London or Birmingham that the real test starts! Try backing into some of the small dairies in B'Ham with a double decker on the blind side! Nobody tests you for that.

I agree with MsBraunGP I passed three months ago and the reversing exercise was very easy but once you get to the docking bays and small yards with a SMALL ammount of space to move in it's a whole different ball game.
I've ripped two curtains in my own company's yard so far.
It's nothing like the excercise used in the test.

@iltidsn Well said. I'm going to get the licence..I'm living in Ireland - situation is close to England's :):)

This exercise may be nothing like the real world, but you need to remember that what you're paying the training company to do is to train you to the standard require to pass the test as it currently stands. I'm sure that they would happily give you extra tuition to practice more "real world" stuff, but I'd rather keep the money and learn & earn on the job.

@iltidsn I drive a Scania 220 in Dublin Ireland. As you said the test is a piece of piss when compared to driving for a living. The public hate us, the police hate us, road users hate us!! With all these new one way systems and road narrowing my life is a living hell. Reversing a 44t in central dublin during rush hour is an experience you never forget!!

@Lousypenguin Thanks pal. Sounds like you know how to do it...backwards! Easy on the test....come on London & B'Ham, lets show em how to really back up! Never seen cones on a double yellow or next a bus stop! Where you driving compadre?

@iltidsn Said like a true truckie!

@MPR57 there is one in chelmford
I would not book a training course with TIR as they have lost all the qualified instructors they had. The pass rate has dropped dramatically in the last year and they do not have any DSA registered instructors at all. Would suggest you book somewhere else.
