The Jupiter 2 Arcade presents a tribute to classic arcade vector graphics games.

Vector game refers to any video game that uses a vector graphics display. This means, instead of drawing the image by pixels, the image is projected by an electron beam, drawing lines like a laser show.

Many early arcade games used such displays, as they were capable of displaying more detailed images than raster displays on the hardware available at that time. Many vector-based arcade games used full-color overlays to complement the otherwise monochrome vector images. Other uses of these overlays were very detailed drawings of the static gaming environment, while the moving objects were drawn by the vector beam.
Games of this type were produced mainly by Atari, Cinematronics, and Sega.

  • -excuse me you forgot empire strikes back atari 1985

  • You are excused, but I only hope I am. I am sure I "forgot" alot more. Mostly stuck to "pre '82" stuff, but Empire certainly was an awesome and fun game.

  • I agree, too bad some of the stuff was hard to see, but vectors are hard to capture in general.

I just played several of these at an expo the other month: S. Trek, S. Wars, Tempest, Star Castle. Played M. Havoc (one of my all time faves!) a few years back at the same expo. Nice to see some games I missed, like Eliminator & Zektor.

Delete this as spam if you want, but I did a similar video with the Vectrex (click my name to see it), some of which are close copies of these games! Cheers!

  • Yeah, once uploaded to YouTube it's even harder to see some. And no, I think it's great that you mention your vectrex vid here. If someone enjoys these things it's just another great link in the chain of fun browsing! Hail to the vectors!!!
