Center for American Progress Research Director Faiz Shakir joined CNN's John Roberts to discuss the House Speaker's trip to the Middle East and plans to visit with Syrian leaders in Damascus. A trip that has drawn rebukes from the Bush Administration despite visits to Syria by GOP Congressional leaders in recent months.

Look at what Gingrich did in the '90's, he criticized Madeleine Albright and said: We will defend Taiwan, period. [3/31/97] while in China. None of the two separate groups did anything of the sort in Syria.

Immediately following the elections that placed the Dems in control of the Congress, Al Qaeda expressed pleasure at the win. It looks as though their joy was well founded. Not only is the Dem Congress cutting our ability to fight a global war on terror and bribing Congressional votes with PORK legislation, but also undercutting U.S./Israel policies in dealing with terrorist-sponsoring states. I wonder if Pelosi offered Assad a "PORK" deal like the other terrorist sympathizers in Congress?
