A song now more associated with Bob Marley than Curtis Mayfield. The Impressions in 1964 with the sound that inspired so many young vocal groups esp. in Chicago and Jamaica.

  • Yeah. Marley in particular was a huge fan of Curtis Mayfield... though it's hard not to be, Curtis is the master of soul, after all.

  • really thought wailers originated this but curtis an crew never cease to amaze me woy

  • amazing

  • @itsgottobefunky You remind of Jesse Jackson, 'keeping hope alive, which by the way is irrational, as for strength, that's dependent on character.and 'Dig, I was feeling the heat from the 'Spear before you had even had teeth in your mouth.

    More Love!

  • Thank you for sharing your sentiment. I agree with most of what you say and am tickled by the way you put it... that by the way is a rarity on the tube.

Anyhow, if I was in a party, and this tune came on, I my friend would be heading to the bar. It took genius to compose this track but the courage of Bob

and the wailers to tell it like it is'. without fear of repercussion. BTW Curtis faithfuls, you ever given Jerry Butler a try ! I must warn you that it may prick that mayfield bubble. Bless

  • @pharcelle1 thats an astute observation. The musical expressions of oppressed people have often been subversive like this. Heavy socio-political messages under the guise of spritely party tunes. Just another way to mess with the "man's" head - getting the message out without being blackballed or worse.

  • from what I hear, The Impressions were very popular down in Jamaica and other islands. So, not surprised.
