Waiting On God Can Be Tough
Overcoming Lifes Biggest Struggles Part 5
November 1, 2009 ~ Romans 4:17-20

God does everything just right and on time, but people can never completely understand what He is doing. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NCV)

But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall
mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they
shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

How To Believe While Waiting On God

Romans 4:17-21
As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed--the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were. Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead--since he was about a hundred years old--and that Sarah's womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

1. Grasp The 6 Stages Of Faith.
•Stage 1: Dream (Age 75)
(God) I will make you into a great nation... Gen. 12:1-3
•Stage 2: Decision
So Abraham left as the Lord had told him to... Gen. 12:4
•Stage 3: Delay (Age 86)
But Sarah still had not borne any children... Gen. 16:1
•Stage 4: Difficulty (Age 99)
How can a son be born to a man my age? Gen. 17-18

•Stage 5: Dead End
Take your only son, whom you love, and sacrifice him... Gen. 21:1-6, 22:1-12
•Stage 6: Deliverance
(God) Dont hurt the boy...Ive provided a lamb... Gen. 22:12-14

2. Focus On What God Can Do.
Abraham believed in God who gives life to the dead and who creates something out of nothing. Romans 4:17 (NCV)

What is impossible with men is possible with God. Luke 18:27(NIV)

3. Depend On Gods Promises.
When hope was dead within him, Abraham went on hoping in faith...He relied on the word of God... Romans 4:18 (Ph)

While God was testing him, Abraham still trusted in God and his promises, so he offered his son Isaac... Hebrews 11:17 (LB)

Though it seemed Abrahams hope could not be fulfilled... he did become the father of many nations, exactly as God had promised. Romans 4:18 (JB)

4. Face The Facts In Faith.
Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead...and Sarahs womb was also dead. Yet he didnt waver with unbelief... Romans 4:19-20a (NIV)

Through faith he regarded the facts. Romans 4:19a (GW)

5. Expect God To Come Through.
Abraham never doubted. He believed God, for his faith and trust grew ever stronger, and he praised God for this blessing even before it happened. He was completely sure that God was well able to do anything He promised. Romans 4:20-21 (LB)

Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times. Romans 12:12 (GN)
