Home or House? I asked my child
In which do we abide?
She answered with a simple smile,
Home, she softly cried.

A house is built with nails and boards
It is but a simple shell
And even the turtle, living far and wide
Has one of those as well.

Remember, when I came home today
You hugged and kissed my face?
That is where I felt my home,
In that safe and warm embrace.

Remember when I hurt my knee
And you held me all night long?
My home was in your lullaby
In that simple little song.

Remember when I ran the race
And didnt finish it in time?
Home is in the pride you felt
When I crossed the finish line.

Remember when I took a book
That did not belong to me?
Home is when you taught me why
That was not the way to be.

A home is where I feel wanted
And loved each and every day,
But a house is just a shell of wood
And just another place to lay.
