  • Zagalo, Brazil's manager, called this 'a match for adults'....it's a perfect description

  • Superb game of football. I remember watching it, in black and white TV. A superb English team : never has there been a better side.

Great header from Lee at 12.32. A pity it was straight at Felix.

Later in the game, Astle misses a sitter, an absolute sitter,

    .

  • Today's football is totally different to that time's football. The match changed dramatically.

  • The amount of respect here in unbelievable compared to today. Players should be watching games like this and take a hint from them.

  • I was there at age 11 in the end zone seats. It was hot in the sun and England wore some funky fishnet shirts to try to stay cool. They were booed by the crowd viciously as they came out to start the game. I was at all the games in this group as my dad (from Portsmouth but had emigrated to Texas) rented a house for the month in Guadalajara. Probably I was one of less that 100 Americans in that stadium that day. All the games would start at mid day to TV live to Europe which was rough.

  • it is a great match

  • @evansalone He played for Everton but was frequently overshadowed by team-mate Keith Newton, who played at right-back for all the other games of this tournament. Wright's career seemed to fade away soon after this match.

  • definite pen at 17:21!

Tommy Wright? Don't remember him but he was good in this half.

  • Bloody rude of David Coleman, describing the referee as a boyscout ! Actually, Abraham Klein was excellent in this match, and went on to referee matches in the 1974 and 1978 tournaments.

He must have been incredibly fit, just as fit as the players he had to keep up with in this sweltering match

  • This match is like a good wine,it just gets better with age.
