  • I know where Mr. Broussard is coming from. I lived through Katrina myself, but in Mississippi instead of Louisiana. I have never felt such complex and powerful emotions, such as anger, sadness, shame, disgust, frustration and desperation all at once. And even now, years afterwards, it still hurts. I naively believed that the government cared about us. When I found out how wrong I was, my whole worldview shifted.

  • The truth remains, though, that FEMA sabotaged relief efforts. And don't get me started on the illegal declaration of martial law there.

Just glad I don't live there.

  • The last part wasn't a lie. He said the director of Emergency Management's mother not his drown in a nursing home in Saint Bernard Parish. He may be a crook and an indicted elected official now but the last story was not a lie. I am just saying.

  • How did the guy's mom drown on Friday?

  • I remember when I evacuated from Katrina and I was living in Buffalo, NY with my then-boyriend (who was from NY). I watched this interview and I can tell you I could not stop crying from this interview. Watching this after five years, it STILL makes me cry.

  • @Anama1110 It was more than just an accidental fuckup from "too much red tape"

Emergency police communication lines don't get cut accidentally.

  • fuck...

  • Folks, Aaron tells Tim Russert that FEMA

cut the communication lines in Jefferson Parrish after Katrina and Russert doesn't stop Aaaron to ask him more questions on this blockbuster news story.

Now you know why the press is silent on 9/11.

  • This guy is a crook and a liar of the lowest order. Hopefully, he will soon join the growing number of incarcerated elected officials that stink up this area. And that bullcrap at the end was just that--all made up. He saw an opportunity for statewide and national exposure and he took it. Two days later, Stone Phillips was doing a piece on him and labeling him a hero, just what this weasel was counting on.

  • those people of fema will pay someday

  • The way I see it, Broussard told the truth as best as he knew it. No politician is that good of an actor, if he was he'd be president by now. Katrina was a helluva storm, but I do applaud parish president Broussard for what he did. I don't care that he pulled men away from the pumps and that my own damn house flooded. Being in his position mean making decisions more difficult than most of us will ever make. He put human lives over property and that's OK in my book, even if hindsight is 20/20
