I like having an Aspie mind, and would not want to be any other way.

  • I just don't get it how positive things such as special talents in geography language or any other area can be a part of an illness. It just doens;t make sense. If you are talented in these areas that simply means you are talented and smart not that you have some frickin syndrome or disorder. Only painful and unpleasent things can be symptoms of a disease.

  • @jebus0000000 I believe this incongruency comes from the way you see autism. It is not a curable illness or disease. It is a developmental difference that affects the "wiring" of the brain. Many times this difference in development is very disadvantageous like a disease or illness. However, sometimes this difference in wiring can be an advantadge such as me being able to see maps in my head better than a typical person. I hope this helps.

  • I know I may be accused of stereotyping but Aspies in general are more honest, less materialistic and much much less back stabbing than the NT general population.

But Aspies are accused of not having adequate 'social skills'. Maybe Aspies don't have enough 'superficial skills' instead!

  • Totally agreed, I have noticed this in my life as well.

  • You should try out discrete mathematics

  • i have never heard of this disorder until today but i noticed that i have had many of these symptoms all of my life.

    it makes me wonder.

  • @jebus0000000 Being talented in that one area & completely hopeless in all others is hardly a gift.

  • @MeetTaylorMorris Your writing is quite eloquent: You definitely have a talent for writing. The English language is full of exceptions to the rules, but if you memorize the exceptions, then English Syntax should come more easily to you. I suggest you read the AP Stylebook: it helped. I was diagnosed last month, and I'm just now realizing that maybe I could have a friend who thinks with logic instead of trying to befriend creatures of emotion. I'm willing to bet you live far from WA...

  • I think that being Aspergers, we can think alot of ourselves [and perhaps we deserve to for our own joy]. But that certainly won't help others, and won't help them. It is nice to proclaim superiority and victory, but I prefer to obtain equality even with a supreme ability. I don't hope for the world to see me as smart, only to see enough of me to recognize I should be seen. Beyond that, I only hope I am understandable so I can help others achieve what special abilities I may have.

  • You go girl! Positivity in Possibility.

  • on my off-time i study things that people go study getting their doctorate. to me this is just a hobby, something fun to look into. with almost no effort on my part i excel head and shoulders above my fellow students in almost every scientific field. but when it comes to remembering the name of a person or a place, i just can't do it. my mind had decided against my will that it is not useful knowledge and just dumps it on the spot.

  • aspie+mechanics for me, my mind is disigned for metalworking, i like to build my own toys when i was a kid and now i still make my own car better, build machines i must do this to stay happy. greetz
