@tristonfordummies Believe it or not amy had a raw voice too riff and run but to sale records it was not allowed for her as many other singers, which is why Jazmine is not as successful as amy was because she sticks to her style and not what sales. Beyonce could tear this song to pieces riffing and running, but she knows better. Ella fitzgerald, queen of scat, ear unheard of, would have put this to shame. but she did her version simple and sweet.Every song does not have to be over sung like this
-
Ella Fitzgerald did it best, simple and sweet. I love Jazmine, but ellas ability to riff and run is unmatched. Point is Ella could have did this and some, but wanted the lyrics to be heard. This version gets me lost, makes me think ok Jazmine get on with it. Jazmine is an amazing talent in her style of singing. This just is not the song for all of that. Amy did it great too, made it her own, and brought that Jazz. So if comparing Amy and Jazmine. Amy was Jazz, this is let me show you how to run.

I personally am a fan of the Sara Vaughan version and I LOVE Jazmine's version. So what if she "over sings" the song? What exactly is over singing anyway?? I felt emotion in the runs she did just as much as the emotion in the more simple original. Just take it for what it is. I love when ppl reinvent a song and make it their own, I hate when ppl cover a song and it sounds just like the original.

@SavaEQZY I'll listen to it...idk I didn't think she overdid it but you might be more of a jazz listener than me
-
@missezsosweet08 vocal ability yes, but she ruined the core of the song by oversinging it. listen to Sara Vaughan's version (1963) - it's also a kind of show-off performance, but with bull's eye emotion!
-
@mdsmith2000 it's not even about "meant to be simple", it's about the point of the song, TOTALLY missed in this case. This may be an outstanding performance, although I'd rather call it show-offy, but she totally missed the emotion and the sole point of this song o.O
She would do better covering someone like Beyonce (who is also great, don't get me wrong, but a-world-apart sensibility)
