It's not boring like most of the other cooking shows out there. Yan Can Cook was all about the joys of learning how to cook chinese cuisine.
i'm not sure if you're aware, but there weren't many chinese cooking shows out there due to the mysticism and selfishness of recipes being told on TV.. This comes from Americanized tastes and fast food chains in China. Stephen Yan and Martin Yan changed the way American and Canadian audiences watched cooking shows and made it entertaining.

you can stand there and cook and make the audience sleep... martin yan is a cook and an entertainer, which is vital since he was in the show business. gotta win the audience's attention
