Only on video do you get to notice the "out of sync" phenomenon. When listening it doesn't matter only the beauty of total experience. A wonderful performance.

you better be a good clarinet player to play in this one.

one of the best overtures of all time--I think in the top 5 actually. exciting to listen to--must be more than exciting to play--watch out players--fast!!!

@DrumMajorC Thing is, it's a lot less common for the sound a string instrument makes to be out of sync with the motion of the fingers or bow of the player. Further, Svetlanov's beat lines up with the bows of the orchestra the majority of the time. The audio and video don't line up, there, chief. This is an exceptionally good performance, though.

One of my favorite pieces of music conducted by one of my favorite conductors, fantastically done. To all those complaining about "out of sync" and "bad conducting" you must not have played in an orchestra seeing as orchestral conducting is almost universally ahead of the beat, Svetlanov just has a more unique way of going about it.

@fromkazan Now realize that he considered this trash composed to appeal to people ignorant of the finer components of music. It just goes to show how good he really was.

I tell you, I find the movement of a bow over strings such a soothing experience.

It's always so damn tragic when the audio doesn't sync up with the video. It's hard to watch Svetlanov beating on the offbeats when the music's SO damn good. Any way someone can fix this? =D

vienna is soooo overrated. Berlin is probably the best
the Leningrad phil under Mravrinsky back in the day was a close second though
