This has been my favourite piece of music for over thirty years - and I think this is the most powerful rendition I have heard. The instrument is not the best but it's the interpretation that counts - you manage to keep the gradual build-up of emotion, a bitter-sweet mixture of grief and celebration, going right to the end.

What a beautiful piece of music for someone to compose and write in honor and remembrance of another human being. Awesome, to say the least!

Note perfect, so much so the performer is too afraid to make her own registration changes. Put more emotion in your playing!!

j'aime votre crescendo et votre solo 16*29

Excellent rendition. Very well-paced and uniquely expressive, this rendition manages to perfectly convey that particular flavor of mourning and respect that I think Durufle very obviously intended to give his listeners. I won't comment on the registration, since I think it's fair to say with a recording this poor it's rather hard to tell what they are; all faults are the recording device's, not the instrument. The console nameplate should speak for the quality of worksmanship.

And it's nice to know that they're currently mid way through a restoration project which will have the acoustics improved and additions from the 1950s will be made to blend better with the original 1934 part of the organ. Wonderful news!

It's my favorite piece too! I'm so glad somebody shares my love for this incredible piece of music!

To those who responded that it's not such a great organ but a great performance: you are sadly hearing a very poor quality recording of a simply magnificent organ played by a very talented musician. I would love to see your face had you actually been in the building while this was played. Grace Cathedral is a place with an instrument that can change your soul. Kudos to the performer!

How durufle must have feel this lost of a great talented collegue. His music shares with us his great affection and love of a spoiled life who could bring us so much. Horrible organ, but love the energy and the effort!

This organ is the Alexander Memorial Organ in Grace Cathedral, San Francisco (built by the Æolian-Skinner Company in 1934). It has 125 ranks and 7,466 pipes in seven divisions.
