We remember the victories and forget the defeats. But not this one. The King, thirteen earls, countless lesser nobles, the Archbishop of St. Andrews, two bishops, two abbots, three Highland chiefs and over ten thousand men-at-arms 'a wede away'. James IV, brought up on Blind Harry's tales of Wallace and Barbour's Brus, thought it was enough to take Bruce's sword with him into battle. Long after the defeat, it is said that some English workmen played football with his head. Now that's not cricket.

  • "why only scottish flags around the monument" Because it is part of the Coldstream festivities when the riders head off to Flodden to commemorate the Scottish dead. The song Flowers Of The Forest also commemorates the Scottish dead. That does not mean they don't respect the other side's fallen. Every people are allowed to commemorate their fallen. If English people wish to commemorate their fallen at Flodden there is nothing to stop them!

  • @bochalsfriend even more help from the irish

  • So some English workmen playing football with his head justifies invading another country? I t does explain why th English are shite at the game though.

He should have picked it up and run....

  • Its never easy to justify internal or civil wars in a country, but the British history of our Island has always been one of conflict with various tribes trying to out do another. The Scottish Highland clans were some of the worst for fighting amongst themselves. It took a lot to get these Clans together to fight the English crown, even some clan chiefs held titles and land bestowed by the King they were fighting.Even in defeat there was victory in one form or another.

  • im an englishman junkman and just as proud as you.

but show respect to the dead, you do yourself and england no honour by behaving like this.

  • @junkman19571 that's a bit of a charged comment - quite why you'd want to celebrate murder I don't know

  • @junkman19571 You english arsehole, time you realised that the english have won fuck all since without the help of the scots.

  • @junkman19571 Victory doesnt matter to the dead.

  • why only scottish flags around the monument......get them down and put up the cross of st george....this is england and is an ENGLISH victory....

  • i'm english and you can feel the loss in the tune...
