The structure featured in this video once loomed over the old Fun Pier on the Wildwood Boardwalk. No doubt younger vacationers hadn't a clue what this tower was or what purpose it once served, but for myself and other baby boomers... we remember it well. Many years have slipped by since this attraction was intact and fully functional - in fact, it sadly remained dormant for the majority of its existence. On Tuesday, May 6th 2009, I said goodbye to the old familiar tower that has been the silent sentinel on Fun Pier for more than 40 years. When operational the Sky Towers lighted gondola (which could carry up to 30 passengers) would slowly rotate continuously throughout the ride, providing a panoramic view of the island. Back in the day it was said to have attracted 8 to 10,000 riders a week.

does it get any better than Nine Inch Nails + Wildwood? I think not! Excellent video, though it is indeed sad to see an icon go. I have a VERY close to heart connection with Nine Inch Nails and Wildwood- NIN was the soundtrack to my early to mid 90's Wildwood visits..the drive down on the parkway...the walkman on the boardwalk..ahh..

I remember riding this back in the day and how scary it was because there was nothing on the Wildwood boardwalk that came even close to that height. I believe it was 150 feet, I think the one in AC was 250...Thanks Ralph, another awesome video.

I have been on it when i was a kid, back then this was considered a " cool" go inside and it would rotate slowly as it rose upward then back down, offering a great view of the ocean, boardwalk and city. I guess by todays standard of wild rides, this would be boring to alot of people, but i would still like to see a new sky tower rise where the old one once stood. Thanks for posting!!

Thanks for posting this. I've wondered my whole life what this tower was. I never saw it functional, but still sad to see it go!!

How sad. With this Tower gone and the Golden Nugget Mine gone, are there any landmarks left on the Boardwalk Piers from the 1950s/1960s? I guess time has to march on, but now the piers are all Morey, all the time. Morey does a fine job on its piers, but I miss the diversity and the quirky creativity that the different piers used to have.
