Voddie Baucham,
From The Divided Film DVD, The Danger of a Youth Ministry Sub-Culture in the Church.
"There is a crisis. Christian youth are rapidly leaving evangelical churches for the world. This well-recognized disaster has been the topic of significant discussion in recent years for both church leaders and modern news media. DIVIDED follows young Christian filmmaker Philip LeClerc on a revealing journey as he seeks answers to what has led his generation away from the church.
Traveling across the country conducting research and interviewing church kids, youth ministry experts, evangelists, statisticians, social commentators, and pastors, Philip discovers the shockingly sinister roots of modern, age-segregated church programs, and equally shocking evidence that the pattern in the Bible for training future generations is at odds with modern church practices.
He also discovers a growing number of churches that are abandoning age-segregated Sunday school and youth ministry to embrace the discipleship model that God prescribes in His Word."
So then what is the answer... because quite frankly when I was growing up, we ALL set in the sanctuary with the adults, they talked on THEIR level and sometimes it didn't even feel like we were important! It was the ADULTS service without the title saying that.... Later in my life I attended a church that had Youth ministry, but our Pastor made it a regular thing to make sure that the ADULTS and the YOUTH were together regularly, even the church I am in now, has a youth ministry, BUT WE ARE 1

Amen, brother. I'm glad to be on the side of thinking people like this one, rather than on the side of so called relevant, trying to be cool and keep up with the world but always drag behind it...

The leadership must believe in it first, then disciple the heads of households... it may take a long time depending how steeped in modern culture the local church is.

Much of my life was shaped by an extramural "youth ministry," the "Jesus movement." However, the youth were doing the ministry, rather than passively receiving entertainment. More recently, I've seen how family-focused "youth ministries" engage children as integral parts of the family's outreach to sojourners. People from family-friendly cultures, such as Muslim, are not impressed by our "Christian" dog and pony shows. They rejoice to be welcomed into the heart of an affectionate home.

Youth ministires need to focus on family paramountly. As young person myself, I believe that having a stable family life is key, especially a Christian family. Some people that attend youth ministries are not serious, and can therefore influence and corrupt those who are attempting to live a Christian lifestyle - as peer pressure is common amoungst the youth. In conclusion, youth ministires need to focus on empowering young people to be active Christians, rather than just a 'hang out' session.

@sirsaint88 Parents have not reversed it - allowed it maybe but not caused it. We are not meeting like the Bible instucts us to (Cor. 14) largely due to system that places titles and other men between themselves and Christ. All of the youth issues are solved by doing church as commanded by the Lord. Lots of sites nail this issue but hard to find in operation anywhere today. I guess more persecution is needed for others to see the blessings in it.
