Melanie has just the right sort of voice for Mrs Johnstone. Big, Earthy, warm .... I saw
Marti Webb play the role once and she was too polished and perfect. Niki Evans was far better. Its a role like Nancy in OLIVER! and the actress who plays it has to have that maternal, salt-of-the-earth quality for it to work.

@XhorsesXruleX yep she is putting it on because she lost her scouse accent for her singing career but lucky for us that when Mel comes home she hears scouse everywhere :)

@ no mel is a MUCH better singer she sounds more scouse than Vivienne because obviously she's from Liverpool and her voice is perfect for the role! Mel c is by far the best Mrs J so far!! Plus she is putting on that scouse voice because now she doesnt sound very scouse ;)

You can't compare the two ... it's like comparing apples to oranges! Both have strong voices and project well but are completely different in style. Maybe you prefer Vivienne's style over Melanie's and thats ok!

I agree with you =) I think its hard to even compare musicans with each other. I mean they all sings and do difference stuff and they are all great in their own ways.
