Regarding the tempo - imagine playing this tune as many times as these guys have...you gotta change something to keep it fresh and interesting. Miles constantly wanted to move forward - he did not like playing stuff from the past. A faster tempo might just be enough to elicit new ideas for him.
Cilfford Brown, Kenny Dorham, Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Morgan...to name a few. Some consider Clifford Brown's early death contributed to Miles's domination of jazz trumpet.
actually.....now that you say that.....and I know that I too will probably get as many thumbs down as you....but....I actually agree- its one of those songs that needs to be slow and drawn out, like a lazy summer (sorry for the cliche) and he doesnt seem as present while he is playing.. haha 22 hours later and I completely contridict myself!!

haha it's alright! but ya... and i get annoyed with the people that post videos of summertime where its really fast tempo and not smooth,
