PART 2 of 2:

On June 15, 2000, thousands marched on Queen's Park in Toronto, Ontario to demand a meeting with then-Premier Michael D. (or Mike) Harris - the leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party and the promoter of a right-wing "common sense" revolution which left so many Ontarians in poverty, on the street and even dead. At this time, the police were cracking down on all progressive protests and were openly supportive of the right-wing government in power in Ontario, Canada.

The Provincial Parliament refused to allow speakers from the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) to enter peacefully and speak to the House. As you can see in the video, police then deliberately let go of the fences around the Parliament, and a bloody and violent riot ensued that caught the attention of people all across Turtle Island (Canada) and Quebec.

About a year later, Mike Harris left office as a hated and disgraced leader, and the Tories were totally defeated in the 2003 Ontario election.

  • When Harris was in power you literally had homeless people fighting riot cops on the lawn of the Ontario legislature. I don't think it could've been more obvious that day how violent and desperate the state is to maintain its power.
