@levierdragon Glad to know that at least one of today's youth hasn't been overwhelmed and brainwashed by all the "dumbed down" rubbish pumped out via tv and facebook - your generation has become what Hitler described his own people as "A sleepwalking people". Maintain you interest in history so that you'll be alert to the latter day demagogues who are every bit as dangerous as Der Fuhrer was in his time. Remember. "Those who don't learn from history are condemed to repeat it".

@patricklegg2 I have German books about ww2 from Guderian , Leon Degrelle, and others. My papa fought in the ruhr and met my grandma in berlin hospital . Just because i have an interest in my heritage and respect it , i get called all kinds of stuff.

I never knew Donitz spoke such perfect English.

Karl Doenitz was a hero. He saved thousand upon thousand of innocent lives at the end of WWII when he took over from Hitler, by not capitulating to the Russians and moving civilians and germans to the western front to ensure they were captured by the americans, brits or french. Hundred of thousands that were taken prisoner by the russians never came home again.

I'm 18 and I love learning about WW1 and WW2 and anything of the past, but it seems like kids my age would not like to discuss anything to do with WW2. Every time I refer something to WW2, they look at me in puzzlement. I have yet to meet another teen that has any knowledge of WW2. Most popular audiences of these history videos are 35-64 yo, so are today's younger generation much less aware of history or perhaps they have better things to do such as facebook and I'm just dwelling in the past...

Was genuinely surprised to find old Donitz speaking here.
Whatever you think of Donitz's politics, you have to give him credit for his skills as a naval commander and strategist. He was no doubt one of the best of the 20th century. Also, remember before any of us judge the Admiral too harshly, 60 years from now someone might be judging our troops and commanders based on their opinions of W and/or Obama, and that's hardly fair. Soldiers fight wars, politicians start them.
