P.U.L.S.e team member Frank Williams decided to take a couple runs on Dragon's Tail on a cold winter day. The road was wet and there was an abrupt bump between the transition of smooth to very rough pavement. The bump started a slight wobble which caused an uncontrollable "tank-slapper" on the very greasy rough, damp asphalt. He was able to slow down enough before being ejected off his luge to prevent any major injuries. Speed was estimated (based on a previous GPSed run on a classic luge) at 60 mph.

  • I have one of those Icaro helmets similar to what I have seen Sidecar Nick wear but mine is the cut off version of it.

  • @rojorunner27 I'm sorry, I'm not familiar enough with those helmets to give you advice.

  • hope you are ok. the main problem i have on one of my new routes is a quick porgression of dips before the final drop. I get up to around 55 to 60 and then hit those pesky dips. My visor keeps flopping open. I was thinking drill two small holes for a zip tie. ever have this prblm?

  • @rojorunner27 Just a few scrapes and bruises, nothing major.

Yes, once; the problem was too loose of visor bolts and laying my head too far back allowing air to rush under the chin guard and into the helmet pushing the visor out enough for the air outside the helmet to catch and pull it up. What helmet are you using? You might consider some kind of clip, or even a bit of velcro to prevent your visor from opening but still allow it to be opened by hand.
