  • The Pines are really cool. Atmospheric, great recreation opportunities, spooky abandoned towns (ever heard of the company town of Amitol, built by the War Dept. during WWI to manufacture munitions?), and of course, Pineys -- a subculture even more physically, culturally, and linguistically isolated than the old inhabitants of the Eastern Shore of MD or some WVA towns. We cannot let the pines go away once developers get back on their feet and want to encroach there again! A national resource.
