Backhand smash was not very good at all and a more seasoned opponent would have already sealed the point there. But the follow up forehand volley was good. She hit some better volleys, backhand and forehand, at Istanbul. Kudos to those who spotted her long before Wimby 2011 though! No need to compare to Navratilova and no point, really. We may not have to suffer Wozniacki for much longer, so hurray to that.
Let's focus on now. This is a fantastic forehand volley. Zahlavova hits a dipping bullet wide the the forehand side of Kvitova, who handles the toughest of volleys easily. Go Petra! That said, going back: Navratilova had a terrific backhand volley, but against power, her forehand volley tended to be sketchy. Kvitova plays against much more pace and spin than did Navratilova, and she volleys equally well on both sides. A little more experience, a little more maturity- the heights reached.
@Summon256 What's the matter with you? Davenport had a fantastic net game as a whole. It was just outshadowed by her brilliant groundstrokes and serve. Of course she was not Navratilova, but she didn't have to be.
@Summon256 do you? As I said, she might not be as good as Mauresmo, but that is because her game is not built around finesse, are you really not intelligent enough to understand my point? Watch their wimbledon 2005 match, and you see Davenport go to the net plenty of times. Commentators like Tracy Austin have said she makes up for her lack in movement by her 'great hands'. She is waaaay out of Suarez Navarro's league, she has won 3 doubles slams and has been nr. 1 in doubles for crying out loud!
@Summon256 but you forget that players you named base(d) their games around feel and volleys, (with Henin being the most comfortable at the baseline) whereas Kvitova doesn't have the game that matches these skills normally. Only exception is Davenport with whom she's been compared, and Davenport was a great doubles player and good volleyer. It's just more impressive when they produce such a volley, cuz for them it's not as natural. And this one's a lot better than Schiavone's worst volley lol
@TopTenTennisNetwork reason i'm saying this is because i don't understand people's habbit to overhype things and making it out not the way they really is...i mean WOW look at those volley amazing one of the best...but than when it comes to what i really call THE BEST VOLEEYs ever nobody even mentions a word about it...people are dumb, or just don't know what good looking volley is :|
@TopTenTennisNetwork you don't understand because you aren't reading it carefuly...i'm saying that she can volley well, but in this video its not the case when she does her best job when it comes to volleying...still even her best volley shot won't compare to even worst volley shot of players like Schiavone, Henin, Mauresmo etc...because THOSE volleys are sharp as an edge...
dobrý bylo jak Petra v rozhovoru při Fed Cupu Bářino příjmení vyslovila "Záhlavová-Strýková" :D .. jako správná Češka

@Summon256 I don't understand... You say it's not good, yet describe why it is so good.
