We stop to check out Emerald Mound, the second largest Indian Mound in the country. This was once a center of commerce, religion, and culture. John decides to roll down the mound, and I slide down the rail of the stairway. I weep for the future.
Impressive mound, if your ever in Northeast Louisiana go see Poverty Point. 100 foot mound in it's hayday, now about 75 feet high. Great museum there too. Poverty Point was a shopping mall of sort for the Native Americans at that time.
