I thought I'd add yet another superb "unreleased" (in HD 1080p) video and track from the amazing "Velvelettes" back in April/July 1966 intended for Motown's VIP label, but at the time added to the thousands in the "Vaults" sadly! What a shame that this great sound was never heard, don't you think? It's a bit better in HD of course, so I'll make future ones in this 1080p format. Tell me what you think of this track, so feel free to comment? JOHN

  • saw the velvelettes at dunstable late eighties alongside marv johnson,& martha reeves, courtesy of jon buck

(leighton buzzard promoter/dj) and this was their opening track still got it on a tape of their perfomance

thanks for your posting this is far superior to a taped version except for the fact the tape has all the live atmosphere

  • Glad you like the original from 1966, I've also got the Marvelettes recording of this song recorded later, but this is no doubt the best one, I've got some more to add by Marv Johnson too that never saw the light of day sadly, most would have been hits at the time if released too! JOHN

  • nice one magic!!!!put this upload on my oldies list!

  • Glad you liked it, I've got some more to come with the HD format too, so watch out for them! JOHN

  • Berry Gordy referred to the Velvelettes as his 'college girls' due to their young age when the first went in to audition (An uncle of theirs worked at motown, but didn't know they were auditioning till they got their). I personally think he always viewed them in this light.

They had previously put a record out on their own label (Bertha & Norma) - Barbee US label. Love them to this day. Malc

  • @gayboylaca Thanks for your comment. They were all so brilliant in those days, the 60's, I remember it all very well ;-) it's a shame they were not noticed more but Motown had so many artists eventually I'm amazed Smokey managed to produce them all apart from all the other brilliant people there were then at Hitsville! JOHN

  • @gayboylaca "I gave you love like no one could, but you turned your back on a love so good."

  • I love the intro.

  • Cal sang this pinching her nose....that's why it sounds a bit nasally for her.

She sang a few lines to me and showed me how she did it. It's amazing what they did in that Hitsville Studio

  • Yes, it was the brilliant William Wetherspoon and James Dean that used to write these great tunes too! they were the forgotten Motown writers to some extent I think. JOHN

  • Cracking track !!!,.ktf.
