Plot Summary: Based on one of the most talked about books in years and a #1 New York Times best-selling phenomenon, "The Help" stars Emma Stone ("Easy A") as Skeeter, Academy Award®--nominated Viola Davis ("Doubt") as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny—three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times.

  • Ya'll shd read the book first and then watch the movie

  • im black and white bitchess!!!!!!

  • @thejaybee84 Well I'm black and I say its a good movie, its amazing. So not everyone black thinks that.

  • I love this movie, and I'm black. It makes me hold my head a little bit higher and know that I'm just as special as anyone else.

  • @getrealandsee Well your view certainly seems (slightly) more empathetic and enlightened - compared to those who on here who thought it was a comedy about eating "strange" chocolate pie - failing to notice (or simply ignoring) the same old tired stereotypes.

My point is that people should not feign surprise at the fact that so many black people find both the book and film offensive. Racism is psychological and I have seen what it does to people's sense of self worth. This film dosen't help.

  • @twitney21ify Amen!!! I have yet to see the entire movie but I couldn't put the book down.

  • @thejaybee84 I just finished the book and I am not sure I want to diminish the impact it had on me by watching the movie...personally, I totally admire and respect...even almost envy the Black women...they are close to each other..they are hard working and downright honest...the white women look like a bunch of dips...friviolous creatures ...these women would NEVER accept me...not ever....(the Black women)...I am now using a notebook to remember who and what to pray for...

  • @twitney21ify I don't know about you, but If I was black and I saw this movie, I would actually feel humiliated by it - I know most of my black friends who (admittedly, I encouraged to see), felt humiliated by it - they also felt it opened old wounds and made them like white people less (ouch!). You can (almost) always tell who is black or white from the reaction to this movie which is nothing more than a condescending, half-baked history lesson.

  • @twitney21ify A movie purportedly about racism afflicting an oppressed community, but actually about the experience of the affluent white person defending that community. "Cry Freedom." "Mississippi Burning.". I think we have been here before ...

  • ...a delicate subject matter. You should read the book and THEN comment one way or another.
