November 21, 2009: Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse took a swipe at the GOP for complaining that the health reform bill is too long to read. He says if his daughter could read a Harry Potter novel when she was 13, then they shouldn't have any problems reading the bill.

  • sheldon whitehouse is a GREAT american and a GREAT senator -- and this comment was a PERFECT description of the utter ineptitude and stupidity of the republicans and their attempts to block healthcare for all americans... their remedy, as rep alan grayson said, is 'DON'T GET SICK -- AND IF YOU DO GET SICK, DIE QUICKLY'... SHAME ON THE GOP!!!!

  • Growknow, Do you have anything other than Democrat talking points. With a super majority in the Congress the Dems can pass anything the want. What's the hold up then. They can't help but stick it to the Republicans any chance they get. They'll keep getting away with it as long as they have folks like you who have no idea as to what is going on and support them no matter what. How sad.

  • @growknow

    You're an absolute idiot.

  • The Republican stall-at-all-costs tactics (especially in the Health Care Reform debate) are hurting everyone. Who is paying their way? It seems clear to me it is the insurance and pharmaceutical interests.

It is still a good time to contact your Congresspeople about supporting Health Care Reform. This will be a huge help to so many people.

  • I like the comment below about the scary bunch of pages-so apt!

When I hear Sheldon Whitehouse speak, I'm reminded that he is the kind of senator who will work hard to make real progress in government. I've always admired him, ever since I started watching Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing podcasts. He always seems prepared to put things in an historical perspective and argue for better understanding.

  • LOL, Your stupidity should be a crime.

Your Dear Leader has the worst poll rating of any American President EVER!!!

  • That was awesome!

No surprise that a 13 year old is smarter than a Republican. LOL

  • This guy is an absolute ass kissing douchebag!! We've been screaming at this putz to never vote for a government healthcare bill and does he listen? NO!

  • It's actually a lot less of you remove formatting (double-spaced, 2 inch left AND right borders). However, I think the Dems may have been trying to cover as many bases as possible considering the enormous amount of rhetoric coming from either side. It's FAR from perfect but a step forward an IMHO, better than the House version.

  • There are 4543 words in the original, unamended Constitution, including the signatures. The Declaration has 1458 words. Our entire Government is contained in this document. Why in hell do we need 2000 pages of a single bill. Oh and BTW Senator did you child only get two days to read the Harry Potter book, I think not.

  • Well OF COURSE the Republicans don't want to read a 2,000 page bill when theirs is much, much shorter: precisely, zero pages. That's because they have zero ideas, other than forcing all Americans to buy private insurance. And that idea isn't even theirs, it's the insurance companies. For a few million, they not only bought Republicans, but Max Baucus, Mike Ross, and of course, sell-out Joe Lieberman. Not a bad return for selling out Americans that wanted real change.....
