  • Do not be misled by modern medicine. It is movements like these that surpass anything a doctor could prescribe. This more than "playing doctor," this is education so you can be your own doctor.

  • Re: digitised's comments: What is "pseudo-science"? My father, who was a scientist in his own right, said that the best definition of science is "it works". So what do gravity, the 2nd Law of thermodynamics and Hanna Somatics have in common? Yep, they work.

  • @digitised So yes i stand by my claims that this could VERY well be pseudo-science, the only research done on his ideas i could find was 1 paper written in 1999. Thats really not enough, especially since it was based on 95 people (too small a sample size to be certain of any definite effects). Most people who practice this 'technique' professionally are unqualified laymen, who go on a short course and then play doctor with people who need proper attention. That is dangerous.

  • @robsig1 Ok so if i have a problem with my jaw, would you suggest i go to speak with say an electronics engineer? or how about a cell biologist specialising in fish sperm?

Both would be absurd since their fields are irrelevant to dentistry and medicine.

Just because 1 physicist with no medical background invents some bizarre ideas, doesnt give him or his ideas any credibility. It needs thorough testing, he and its practitioners have obviously skipped that and gone straight to market.

  • @edog1955 very intelligent comments

  • My experience with Hanna Somatics is that only 3 or 4 slow repetitions are required. Do the movements perhaps 3 times during the day--depending on if you are in an acute state or maintaining "command" of these muscles. The thing to remember is that these are movement/awareness activties--NOT exercises to be done haphazardly. It's very subtle--and very effective. A tip: If you can't do a particular Somatic movement because of pain, then THINK about doing it--visualize as if you are doing it!

  • I love people who have no clue what they are talking about. Warning people to beware that this is pseudoscience? digitised? This is based on Moshe Feldenkrais work, who was a physicist.

I think you need to be aware of 'medical science'. Back surgery doesn't work 40% of the time. Anti-inflammatories are known to destroy the body.

I highly recommend learning and doing Somatics. I've used Somatics for more than a decade to help me manage my own pain after back surgery didn't work.

  • So how often should I do it? And how many leg lifts per session, etc.?

  • I've been a roofing contractor and have had back and hip pain for years. I've tried everything short of surgery with only temporary relief.

I tried this exercise along with a couple other similar exercises from Lawrence Gold's website. I've been doing them for only three days and it is amazing the improvement I've experienced. I plan to continue to see if I can continue to improve.

    Thanks for posting this.
