Professor Eugene Cizek holds the Richard Koch Chair at the Tulane School of Architecture. In addition to the teaching of preservationist principles, he has enriched the curriculum with extensive travel, cultural and academic exchange programs. His international focus has allowed him to become associated with numerous universities such as the National Archives and University of Havana, the Rafael Landivar and Francisco Maroquin universities in Guatemala and national universities throughout Europe. Locally, his academic focus has extended
to the elementary and secondary school education, sitting as a board member of the Priestley School. As a world-renowned preservationist, he has received numerous local, state, national and international awards for his work in preservation education, restoration and environmental conservation. They include the College of Fellows American Institute of Architecture, Honor
Award: National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Freedom Foundation Medal. His professional work has been published in various national journals and books such as New Orleans Style, Past and Present and The National Trust Guide to New Orleans. His projects include such important landmarks as Destrehan,
Laura, Lombard, Belle, Alliance, Oak Alley, Glendale, St. Joseph, and Woodland Plantations as well as regional historic urban structures such as Sun Oak in Historic Faubourg Marigny and Musee Rosette Rochon. Television work includes This Old House: New Orleans, New Orleans Elegance and Decadence, and Reconstructing Creole. He founded the Faubourg Marigny
Improvement Association and was a founding board member of both The Preservation Resource Center and the Historic District Landmarks Commission.
