On July 16, 1969 America sent the first Humans to the Moon. Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins were aboard the mission named Apollo 11, with the "Eagle" a Lunar Landing vehicle sitting atop. They really had no idea if they would meet success or ever make it back home.
The launch vehicle they rode, the Saturn V Rocket, is still the most powerful machine ever built. It generated almost 8 million pounds of thrust and even after nearly 40 years, it is the only vehicle that has carried men beyond earth's gravity, and a quarter Million miles into deep space.
Mankinds Ingenuity has slipped from this pinnacle in my humble opinion.
On July 16, 1969, at 9:26 AM EDT, a bright and tropical morning, and within the decade of President John Kennedy's challange to America, Mankind was about to travel to the Moon.
All of America pridefully watched the mission,
and the time was fondly referred to as Camelot, and the Age of Rockets.
I was only a wee tyke of a laddie.
yep, 3 years old, and blessed with a powerful memory.
