i wish YOU understood the nature of commodities speculation...allow me to educate you. FACT - gas prices dropped in the weeks since President Bush lifted the executive moratorium on OCS drilling-just the possibility that the US might finally get its shit together and drill more domestically has caused speculators to bet on increased future oil supplies, which has resulted in IMMEDIATE lower gas prices. It will drop even more once we actually start to drill.

Oil prices have come down since I started making YouTube movies too. I can cherry pick causes as well as you can. Why did you ignore the strengthened dollar, in which oil futures are denominated, as a cause?

But why would you want to change the topic from medium- and long-term trends to short-term speculation, and make knee jerk policies (that will take years to have any effect and it will be small)? Is your time horizon only as long as John McCain's life expectancy?

(CNN) -- Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal declared a state of emergency Thursday as winds drove a massive oil spill toward the state's coast and authorities scrambled to mitigate its environmental effects.

The slick was some 16 miles off Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico in the wake of last week's oil rig explosion, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Authorities said the slick could begin affecting some coastal areas by Thursday evening, with the bulk expected Friday.

High oil prices empower petro-dictators in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Russia, etc.. Drilling in the U.S. makes no difference because our consumption is so high and our supply of it so low. Straight from Time: "drilling in ANWR would trim the price of gas by 3.5 cents/gallon by 2027."

Let's stop funding petro-dictators. We need to move IMMEDIATELY towards alternative fuels. Extra drilling is a waste of money and effort.

From Business Day section of the Sydney Morning Herald, on July 19:

"Crude oil fell for a fourth day, capping the biggest weekly decline in more than three years, as the Bush administration's decision to participate in nuclear talks with Iran eased concern of a possible military conflict."

So, now that Bush has stopped being so belligerent towards Iran we can pay slightly more normal gas prices. Or we can attack them and watch gasoline go to $6/gallon and beyond.

I totally agree with you on that one. I had to rewind it on my DVR and listen to it again just to make sure I heard right. Drill baby, drill? And then when the crowd starting chanting I was really amazed... In a bad way. It was completely barbaric. And the only place that might be whiter than the RNC is possibly the North Pole. Except it will not be white anymore by the time the Republicans are through with drilling baby, drilling.

I'm not ignoring anything...I'm pointing out that is more than a coincidence that oil prices have dropped significantly since Bush lifted the executive moratorium on OCS drilling. And it surprises me none that you'd want to divert attention away from the fact the neither you or the democrats have ANY

plan , short or long-term, to deal with the horrendous cost of gas for consumers. At least drilling will provide some short-term relief for Americans while we continue to seek alternative fuels.
