Cassius Khan sings a difficult composition in Mishr Kirwaani/Darbari, while accompanying himself on the Tabla. This ghazal was written by the famous poet, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, and is from his works, Daste Sabaa. Khan was deeply inspired by the lyrics and by the tune, which was originally rendered by the Pakistan's Queen of Ghazal, Malika e Tarranum Farida Khanum. Amika Kushwaha plays her sonorous Harmonium and Deepak Raghavan accompanies on the Taanmandal. Khan is hailed as the only professional performing artist in the world who sings Ghazals and plays Tabla simultaneously, a feat recognized by his peers in music. This was a LIVE concert on September 16th 2010 at the Kay Meek Centre in West Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Ghazal with translation:

yaad-e-Ghazaal chashmaaN, zikr-e-saman `IzaaraaN
jab chaahaa kar liya hai, kunj-e-qafas bahaaraaN

The rememberance of the ghazelle-eyed, the talk of the jasmine-cheeked
Whenever I have wished I have turned my corner cage into Spring

aankhoN meN dardmandii, hoToN pe `UzrKhwaahi
jaanaanah-vaar aayii shaam-e-firaaq-e-yaaraaN

Kindness in the eyes, apologies on the lips
Like a beleoved came, the night of separation from friends

naamuus-e-jaan-o-dil ki baazi lagii thi, varnah
aasaaN nah thii kuChh aisi raah-e-wafaa-shi`aaraaN

mujrim ho Khwaah ko`ii, rehtaa hai naasiHoN kaa
ruu-e-suKhan hameshah suu-e-JigarfigaaraaN

hai ab bhi waqt zaahid, tarmeem-e-zuhd kar lay
suu-e-Haram chalaa hai anboh-e-baadaKhwaaraaN

There is still time to mend your ways, oh Teetertaller!
There are a group of drunkards descending towards the Kaaba!

shaayad qareeb pahuNchii subH-e-visaal, hamdam!
mauj-e-sabaa liye hai Khushbuu-e-Khush-kinaaraaN

Perhaps the dawn of union has reached closer, my companion
The current of the easterly wind, is carrying the fragrance of beauties

hai apni kisht-e-veeraaN, sar sabz iss yaqeeN se
aayegeN iss taraf bhi ik roz abr-o-baaraaN

Aayegi Faiz ik din baad-e-bahaar le kar
tasleem-e-mai faroshaaN, paiGhaam-e-mai gusaaraaN

Faiz, the breeze of spring will come one day carrying
the greeting from the wine sellers, message from the one's drinking wine
