You're right. She's not a dramatic voice. But she is a great singer/interpreter who has distinguished herself in dramatic roles. Actually, she has a particular voice, a light voice, but she can use it properly!!

It's too bad that some (In fact, a lot of) people, like you, do not like her...

I say it again: she is not a dramatic voice; She just represents an unusual and succesfull approach to dramatic roles. And personally, I love it a lot.

I highly recommend you to stop watching youtube clips and to see a live performance with this artist. if you haven't heard her live, I think your arguments are quite empty.

Straordinariamente baraccona e miagolante, ma proprio per ciò impagabilmente unica ed ammirevole per la tenacia e sfacciataggine nell'affrontare un repertorio che non è suo. Solo per questo, oltre che per le mille ed una delizie che ci ha dispensato nel corso della lunga e faticosa carriera, dove non si è mai risparmiata, va ammirata ed amata. Grubby sei unica e sei grande.

@deviafan1 Did you attend that performance? I went, she was superb, but the whole cast was magnificent. In particular I loved contralto Ewa Podles as Maffio Orsini. Unbelievable.

Dans ses prises de rôles belcantistes, Gruberova avec ses moyens actuels, alterne le spectaculaire de sa technique et de ses moyens (même si le déclin est sensible, ce qui est normal) mais il y a aussi l'aberration stylistique de son interprétation, ses tics vocaux qui sont devenus caricaturaux, sans parler du "jeu" facial- la caméra est cruelle qui par moments est grotesque- sans atteindre les sommets d'horreur de la fin de Roberto Devereux.

I own Gruberova's recording of the full opera, she wasn't particularly great, but it's not like she is "awful" "MESS".

It's all about Callas isn't it? Do you even go to the opera anymore?
