Project VORTEX (Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes EXperiment) was a field project that involved surrounding a tornado with vehicles that have various weather instruments in an effort to identify what causes a tornado to reach the ground. This is part two of three of a video that shows different clips filmed by the VORTEX team. Other clips are also shown by other non-VORTEX chasers who were chasing around the same area as the VORTEX team.

  • at 2:03+ something confused me...are they saying that a tornado disappeared and then the same tornado reappears 3 days later? how can that happen?

  • Those are two separate tornadoes. What the narrator was trying to say was that during the time they were filming that first tornado the chasers thought they were seeing the best tornado they would see that year. But as it turned out, the tornado that happened three days later was a more spectacular one.

  • ah i see. thanks for clearing that up. ^^

  • You're welcome!

  • by the way, just thought i'd say...don't stop posting these tornado videos. they rock and your one of my favorite youtube video posters.

  • Thanks! I still plan to add more tornado videos in the future.

The McLean-Kellerville storm was the one storm in this outbreak which was rated F5. That was the one that tore the concrete off the road.

  • The Pampa Tornado has to be the most awesome looking tornado throughout the entire outbreak!!! It looks like all of the tornadoes filmed in this particular outbreak were rated F4.

  • Good. Glad to hear it. ^^

  • project vortex 2 for 09 and 2010 woo hoo
