http://www.wtjx.org | Rediscover St. Croix is a half hour program that aims to explore the historic, natural, and scenic areas and elements of the island that residents and visitors, may know, or hear about, but have not had the opportunity to experience for themselves. In this episode, host Janeisha John takes a tour around historic Christiansted. She visits with the National Park Service and tours Fort Christiansvearn, the old Danish Scale House, and the Steeple Building. These sites are part of the National Parks System. There are six historic buildings in all on premises, each rich in history. The more popular of the sites, is Fort Christiansvearn, which was built in the 1700's by the Danes, as a water defense fort. Despite its purpose, the fort never fired a single cannon in its defense. Today, the fort is more famous for one of its former prisoners -- Rachel Faucette, the mother of Alexander Hamilton, one of the nation's founding fathers.
