The headlock Fadzaev used was a Dave Schultz signature move which Dave popularized 1/2 a decade earlier. He might have got it from Rickson Gracie - that's the rumor I heard. Truth, be told its more of a carotid artery choke than and esophagal choke and doesn't require that much strength but you have to cut an angle with it to make it work right.

KENNY MONDAY was also an undefeated MMA fighter who fought & won a major world title in like his 3rd mma fight. HE COMPETED AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL with no exp & destroyed everyone he fought. KENNY MONDAY was & still is i believe the extreme fighting champions last welterweight champion. H said he was just truned off by the brutality of mma& in those days there was VERY LITTLE pay , TO THIS DAY HE WAS 1 OF THE MOST DOMINANT MMA COMBATANTS I HAVE EVER SEEN, not may ppl took a fight w KEENNY MONDAY

Fadzaev was awesome for years before and awesome here going up a weight class, not at his best years and wrestling somebody also great like Monday. On that headlock, LOTS of world class wrestlers, and even decent high school wrestlers can apply a perfectly legal headlock that is tortuous and will put you to sleep. It's not Jiu-Jitsu. Even I could do it during my 20's, now my shoulder is so decrepit I can't crunch like I used to. Hughes does it to Almaeda in the UFC.

as much as I like Monday, you have to call this match an upset just because going into the match Fadsaev was the man to beat for 8 years. 6 worlds and 2 olympics.....you had to consider him the favorite based on accomplishments.
