Martin Sheen, plays Tom, an American doctor who comes to St. Jean Pied de Port, France to collect the remains of his adult son, killed in the Pyrenees in a storm while walking The Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James.

Driven by his profound sadness and desire to understand his son better, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage, leaving his "California bubble life" behind.

Armed with his son's backpack and guidebook, Tom navigates the 800km historical pilgrimage from the French Pyrenees, to Santiago de Compostela in the north west of Spain, but soon discovers that he will not be alone on this journey.

While walking The Camino, Tom meets other pilgrims from around the world, all broken and looking for greater meaning in their lives: a Dutchman (Yorick van Wageningen) a Canadian (Deborah Kara Unger) and an Irish writer (James Nesbitt) who is suffering from a bout of "writer's block."

From the hardship experienced along "The Way" this unlikely quartet of misfits create an everlasting bond and Tom begins to learn what it means to be a citizen of the world again, and discovers the difference between "The life we live and the life we choose."

"The Way" was filmed entirely in Spain and France along the actual Camino de Santiago.

The same advice that any other experience: going free of prejudices, it´s possible to know a very different kind of people doing the camino besides you.

I did it walking alone, I discovered plenty of new things about me, about humans, about life.

    Luck!

About local people I only say, that´s natural to find local reluctant people to the visitors, as it could be in any other part of the world where tourism´s growing suddenly in a few years.

Older people who don´t be habituated to so different people have troubles to be comunicating all the time not only in a foreing language in their OWN village but also in different point of view.

Finally, meat-eating "dillema" is only for vegetarians,

here that´s natural (nothing to apollogise)

Well, I´m spaniard and of course I´ve vegetarian friends (even vegans) what I obviously respect providing they respect me as a omnivourous person I am.

Honestly, being vegetarian or not isn´t the most important thing to do, to live and manily, to experience this "camino", moreover, it offers you an experience of life in order to know how diverse is the people you can know ther (natural as life) for that reason, it´s not the best idea doing the "canino" (and whatever in life) with any prejudice

The Camino de Santiago Compostella - a journey of discovery about the world, others and most importantly - about yourself. Its a a hard trek from St Jean Pied du Port over the Pyrenees and into Spain for your first day - it will break and the first week will find you questioning your own abilities. After two weeks you will be glad its a once in a lifetime experience but by the time you reach Santiago you'll be wanting to do it again. It's a journey that everyone should make time to do.
