I was very, very fortunate to see the Duke Ellington Orchestra in 1974. The sound was unbelievable! A night of excellent music that I will never forget. Was to have seen Duke Ellington and his orchestra the following year but, sadly, he passed away from cancer just before the concert date. A few years later saw his son, Mercer (the white haired trumpeter in the back row, behind Russell Procope), leading the orchestra at a smaller venue. Such great music.
Billy Strayhorn wrote this, not Duke Ellington.
