@devabarry 1ppm. In many parts of the world the naturally occuring fluoride levels are way above this, and cause a condition known as dental fluorosis. It is much more common in places where the water supply is derived from wells, etc, where un-fluoridated water is the norm. How do you think scientists first became aware that fluoride prevents cavities? Because those with (what they discovered to be fluorosis) had abnormally low rates of cavities in their communities.

@ultrakool Hah, you're funny. Fluoride is naturally occuring in almost all water on earth. Half the time 'fluoridated water' actually means reducing the amount of natural fluorine to the level which provides maximum benefit and no side effects! SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE that the minuscule amount we allow in our drinking water has any negative effect. SHOW ME THE STUDIES. I feel sorry for the poor cavity-ridden children growing up in areas that have 'banned fluoridation'.
