This 6 pound tape recorder came out in 1976. It was massive, but a cool toy for its time. Check out the rest from my virtual toybox! ^_^

  • Dr. Bones Mcoy? should be Leonard Mcoy.

  • @imsok2u LOL, actually, I always thought you sounded more like the Godfather, or some other mafia guy. *snicker* But I have one of these and I love this commercial.

  • @dewfall56 Its a scanner it records and diplays readings in three spetragraphic scales. Alpha Beta and Gamma. Hence the word TRI and Corder.

  • @nerdfan91 I believe cassettes were invented conceptually in the 50's, and either Phillips or Norelco had them in standardized form commercially by the mid 60's. I remember as a kid seeing Phillips cassettes behind the electronics counter at the local JC Penny's around 68'. ("get outa' here kid. You're too little to buy anything")

  • Where did the name tricorder come from anyway?

  • Wow. This commercial brings back a lot of memories. I owned one of those tricorders. I was 12 at the time. One Side 1 of the tape, it had the Star Trek theme & clips from Where No Man.., The Corbomite Mneuver & Mudd's Women. Side 2 was blank. That calendar on the wall at 0:48 from 1976--I owned that as well.

  • My cousin just sent this to me....I'm the kid at the desk, that's sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger....that's what growing up in Queens does to your accent.....does anyone have the "Super Jock" basketball commercial, I can't find it? That another classic I did....lmao

  • @SPACEACE84 Most times these come from private film collectors like me. Usually TV stations would throw this stuff out or send it back, either way, it ends up in the hands of those who usually try to preserve these memories through video transfers, tape trading and other means to keep it around.

  • "Authentic replica"

    And looks nothing like it.

  • @Chipsturs I had a Star Trek MEGO Star Trekulator (working calculator). "Digital" calculators were still fairly impressive & novel in the latter ½ of the 70's. They still weren't quite "common place" like today. Anyway, I used to briefly warm my batteries on the wood stove to charge them a bit. Well 1 morning I wanted to take my Trekulator to school. I was in a hurry so, using a 7yo's logic, I just set the whole thing on the stove. Guess what happened? Big'ol puddle'O melted plastic. :-(
