@iStageMom: Might you be implying that raw emotion comes from an untrained chest voice or a "pressed" sound?
-
@edgarbiervliet She was portraying Carmen in one of the previous scenes in the Odd Couple episode.
-
@KevinFromSD Not probably, she IS!
-
@iStageMom It's like comparing apples and oranges.

I remember her appearance on The Odd Couple. Richard Fredricks also appeared on The Odd Couple in a very funny episode that features Jack Klugman treying to act the role of Rigoletto while Fredericks (who has broken his ankle) sings the role from the wings. Klugman is simply hilarious...and Fredricks is a very good sport about it all.

@iStageMom . I dont know of J Styne ever heard this version, but he said that no one could compare to Streisand in Funny Girl.

Beautiful!!
Ms. Horne is probably the best mezzo-soprano in the 20th century.

You can't compare the two. Striesand is a pop singer. Marilyn sings opera. Worlds apart. "Better" is a matter of taste, and what your ears like. ;) Both have a place, and while this is technically amazing, Striesand's version, imho, has more raw emotion, which is what I favor, though if forced to state the better singer, Horne wins the prize.
