Lyrics:
JOHN
MAMA SAID I'D MAKE A BRIGHT, YOUNG ARCHITECT,
I WAS ALWAYS GREAT AT MATH SHE SAID,
SHE WASN'T DOING WELL WHEN I CAME HOME FROM SCHOOL TO SAY
ALL HER LITTLE DREAMS FOR ME WERE DEAD.
THEN MY BROTHER FINISHED UP HIS LAW DEGREE,
I SPENT ANOTHER SUMMER ON THE STAGE.
AND THOUGH SHE ALWAYS WONDERED WHY, SHE NEVER BLINKED AND EYE,
I THINK IF SHE WERE STILL ALIVE, SHE'D SAY.
ALL
IN THE END, YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO,
AND IN THE END, YOU DO WHAT YOU LOVE,
AND IN THE END, YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO,
JOHN
BECAUSE IT'S YOU, IN THE END,
THAT HAS TO LIVE WITH IT.
WHEN I WAS NINE, I BUILT A STAGE IN MY BACKYARD
HUNG A SHOWER CURTAIN, STAGED SOME TOYS
DAD SAID HE WAS PROUD OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF THAT STAGE
MOM SAID, JOHN, YOURE LIKE NO OTHER BOY.
DO I BUILD A STAGE THAT NO ONE ELSE CAN BUILD
OR JUST A POINTLESS HOUSE I KNOW WILL STAND
ONCE YOUVE FELT THE WEIGHT OF YOUR OWN CEILING COMING DOWN
YOU KNOW THAT EITHER WAY, YOURE KINDA DAMNED.
ALL
BUT IN THE END, YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO,
AND IN THE END, YOU DO WHAT YOU LOVE,
AND IN THE END, YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO,
JOHN
BECAUSE IT'S YOU, IN THE END,
THAT HAS TO LIVE WITH IT.
ALL
AND THE FUTURE STANDS BEFORE US LIKE A CHILD,
SCREAMING OUT TO KNOW OUR PLANS,
AND WE ARE UNSURE OF OUR CHANCES,
OVERWHELMED BY HIS DEMANDS,
JOHN
BUT IF FROM EVERY CHANGE
YOU TOOK AWAY THE PAIN,
YOU'D NEVER FEEL THINGS CHANGE.
ALL
AND IN THE END, YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO,
AND IN THE END, YOU DO WHAT YOU LOVE,
AND IN THE END, YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO
JOHN
BECAUSE IT'S YOU, IN THE END, THAT HAS TO LIVE WITH IT
CLIFF AND ANNAJOHNDIVONNE
AND IN THE ENDMAMA SAID I'DDADDY SAID ID
YOU DO MAKE A BRIGHT, MAKE A DAMN GOOD
WHAT YOU YOUNG ARCHITECT.WIFE SOMEDAY.
I originally looked into this musical because of Michael Willett, but wow. Every one of these actors is unbelievably talented. This looks like it's such a great show.

I would love to be in a production of this show or even just to see it.

@DeathofRogue thanks. tell a local theater to produce it and you can star in it!

Is it really that easy? Theater (especially musical theater) is what I've always loved with an unrivaled passion. But is that enough? Unfortunately, I wasn't blessed with much talent despite my intense desire to succeed in it. I'm hoping to minor in it at college, just so I can keep doing shows, but I always thought it "unrealistic" to actually peruse it as a career. Can you base a career on love alone?
My problems aside, I LOVE this show! The Greenroom is where the action really is!

@broadwaydude2378 I wouldn't say it is easy, but YOU can succeed IF you believe 100% you can! I've build my career on love AND hard ass work! I actually just wrote a book about acting called "awakening the actor within" which deals with all those questions. The Green Room is about HOPE. thanks for your comments!
