Good Evening, Police are searching for the man who car-jacked a Ford Taurus, which had two young boys, ages 3 and 5, inside of it.
He was seen removing the 5-year-old before fleeing a parking lot with the 3-year-old still inside. It would be almost two hours later that Hialeah Police would find the vehicle with the child safe and unharmed still inside but not the thief/kidnapper. Police said, at around 3:45 Wednesday, a security guard found the abandoned car and child in the parking garage of the Okeechobee Metro Rail station.
Police now have K-9 units on the scene to pickup the trail or scent of the subject, as they begin their manhunt. They also plan to review any surveillance footage security cameras may have picked up featuring the subject.
Hialeah Police initially received word about the carjacking at about 1:30 in the afternoon. They said a woman was in the parking lot of the Publix Sabor store at the Westfield Mall, located at West 49th Street and 16th Avenue, with her two grandchildren inside the car, when a man wrestled her car keys away from her.
Police said the man, who they described as a 30-year-old white male wearing a yellow shirt and black pants, took one of the children out of the vehicle before he sped off. Oreste Sosa, the uncle of the children, showed up to the scene concerned for his nephews. He described the carjacking as a very violent scene.
Her mother pleaded to have the children before the suspect fled and later left one of the children in the street.
Though it sounds like one of the boys may have suffered injuries as a result of his removal from the car, both children were seen walking into the Hialeah Police Station holding hands with a family member in fine condition.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of this carjacker, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
