Directors rationale: WHEN THE EARTH STOPPED TURNING—from brokenness, back to God

When does the earth stop turning for you? For different people, the situations that make them cry out for help, hope and God vary: a break-up, sickness, the loss of a loved oneeven a dog. But it is through admitting our brokenness and need that we can find the way out, and the way back to God.

When the Earth Stopped Turning... is a musical revue that charts the way from brokenness to realization and, eventually, back to God.

This show was inspired by the talents and propensities of the Playshop Musical Theater Adults 2010 class. Each member of the class exhibited great depths of emotion in various acting exercises. It was quite a rare sight for me to see 18 young adults so open, honest and committed—3 qualities necessary for great acting. I want these qualities of theirs to be highlighted in their showcase, as well as their ability to tell stories clearly through song.

Songs were chosen according to the theme and suitability to the vocal range of the performers. I also chose songs that would challenge the performers as well. There will be spoken words in between songs as well, in accordance with the theme. I prayed that God would lead us to the right material. Hopefully, it will be a moving experience for the audience, and for the performers as well. — Jenny Jamora (Director)
