Planetary views through this telescope (when seeing is good) are stunning...you feel that you look at a photo of the planet and this is not an exaggeration at all!!...deep sky observing is also excellent due to superb contrast. In summary world class refractor
....both of them weigh almost the same (the FSQ has a smaller aperturre but the fourth optical element makes it equally heavy) and cost almost the same...so in summary the FSQ is a must have for those who do wide-field astrophotography, while the TOA is an all around design
The TOA and FSQ series are totally different optical designs. The TOA is a triplet meant to be a dual purpose (visual and imaging) high end refractor while the FSQ is a quadruplet astrograph which excells in astrophotography
Use google to search for "Takahashi FS128 vs TOA130". Other than it says there, the only main differences between TOA-130 and FSQ-106ED is the aperture (130mm vs 106mm) and portability. The 106ED has a shorter focal ratio and smaller aperture making it lighter and easier to transport and work on a smaller mount but also making views slightly fainter. Both are essentially the highest quality optics you can buy which is why the prices are so high compared to achromatic refractors of same size.
the scope was nice, but the music even better. what is it called?
