I'm so inspired! How did you learn to do the plumbing and electrical yourself? My kitchen is in desperate need of a remodel, but I'm going to have to do quite a bit of my own work to be able to pay for it. I'll have to replaced my galvanized pipe and knob and tube wiring as well. Any words of wisdom would be great!

I'm starting mine this week----new cabinets and bathroom vanities, alder wood, doulbe faced door panels with arched tops. Samsung Staron countertops in kitchen and bathrooms with intergrated bowls. New floors and carpets in home. remove popcorn ceilings , texture and paint. Can't wait until its done and I pop that next beer when its over. New AC/Heater system was just done. Total budget 20K. (california is expensive)

Just getting rid of the checkered flag window sash brought-up the resale value by $9K... Nice work on the finished product. =D
I have been doing electrical work since I was a kid, my dad was always building something and I always tagged along and helped out, we hired a plumber to replace our galvanized pipes, but I did the rest of the plumbing. I also researched a lot online. My husband works for a company that builds custom wood furniture, so he has those skills, between the two of us we had most of the skills to do it ourselves. My best advice is to really plan it out and research before you begin, it can be done.

Ain't that the truth! The kitchen was pretty hideous before.

It's called Meganite, it is a solid surface countertop just like Corian. Generally they have to be installed by a certified installer, but we did it ourselves, it's not that hard.
