I wonder why every single bio of wilde I have seen always seems to skip over the time he spent at Trinity College Dublin and straight to his time at Oxford, even though Trinity had a more profund impact on Wilde than his time at Magdalen. At Magdalen Wilde emerged as the fully formed wit and aesthete we all know, but at Trinity he perfected his witty epigrammatic style under the influence of John Pentland Mahaffy, who was a noted classicist and wit. Yet Mahaffy seems rarely mentioned anywhere.
