Just a little ditty on my Warwick Thumb. I'm a strong believer that the bass can be a strong melodic instrument and not just low end thump. Don't get me wrong though, I love me some low end thump too! I'm running my bass through my Boss GT-6B and into my Line 6 Tone Port KB37 but with no real processing. Recorded via my iMac's built in iSight in iMovie '08. Enjoy!

  • Im terrible at tapping on bass. any tips?

  • @9winters5 Yup, pratice....a lot. :) Seriously though, start simple, like with octives and branch out from there. Try the same lines with a variety of differnt beats from a drum machine, etc. Try to reivent soem lines you already have by tapping them. Also, ever tap a drum beat on a desk or table? Same concept; kick ,snare, and then tapitytapitytapity tap - drum fill. Practice, have fun with it, and you'll get there. Good luck!

  • This beautiful melody goes to show the versatility of the bass. Sadly too many people want to pigeon-hole this amazing instrument into a support-only role, which, in my opinion, silences the potential beauty of all low notes can be.

Thank you so much for posting this. This is exactly the liberated way I hope to play bass one day.

  • oh yeah - If the bass man plays a wrong note the he can take the whole direction of the song with him, for better or worse.

Done it a few times myself heh heh :)

  • Sure you can play some chords on a bass but not such as on a guitar! It is the fuller and mellower sound which makes it so beautiful sometimes like on your strumming version. See people like Stu Hamm or Victor Wooten, they play also exceptional things and that on 4 string Bass which others wouldnt play ever on 12 string guitar1

  • Just saw this today. Awesome use of the bass. Proof that the bass can be used in many ways. What an amazing instrument. Good Job KowToy!!

  • omg that bass11111

  • i want a Warwick>>> Nice playing dude!

  • i found this vid cuz i am thinkin of picking up a bass and giving my guitar a rest. i specifically was wanting to know if it was possible to get good melodies/tones by strumming a bass.

thanks for sharing. can't wait to try it. inspired for sure.

  • tabs? if any please?

  • I rarely write comments on YouTube, but i just have to comment this one.

I totally agree with you all. I'im a bass player myself and i just hate the fact, that the bass is way to underrated and mostly has to play the supporting role, while guitarists play their 5 chord song (dont get me wrong, im no music-fashist, i like the eletric guitar too).

thanks for sharing this great video. you totally inspired me.

and yes, tabs would be awesome...

  • Keep the movement going, KowToy! Great job!
