@alabamabregan It's all about your priorities. I'd rather spend 400/month on traveling around the country and doing what I want to do than working a 9-5 boring job. Besides, it may be 400/room where you are (not where I am), but even if you get it that cheap, you have to pay utilities, renters/homeowners insurance, maintenance on the house, gas to go to work..etc. It really isn't a comparison money-wise for most people. If you live in a place where rent is that cheap, it's most likely not great

@alabamabregan Not to mention, there are work camper jobs available for people with no experience directed towards people with exaclty this lifestyle, living on the road and camping. If it's ok to live in an RV and explore/travel the country, what's wrong with a van? You may not be able to do it, but who's to say someone else can't? You know, there was a time when people didn't have central air to control the temperature around them and they did just fine. Some people CHOOSE this life.

5) Libraries. Internet & indoor plumbing, heat and cool. Daytime parking lot.
6) Gym membership. Think national chain (Planet Fitness). Showers, entertainment, fitness & potable water. Low cost, many location, many 24hr & night time parking lot.
7) Carry small pocket notebook. Get organized - write it down. Use your NON CAR time wisely. Use internet time/access wisely and Craigslist the gigs/jobs.
8) Zzzz? Walmart, truck stops, gyms and way way off grid side streets.
9) Travel. BE A GHOST.

The gym membership is one that i've always felt would be a major one to consider if you became homeless..
